In 2011, the Atkinson Charitable Foundation gave out over 1.4 million dollars in grants. The priorities of the Foundation were early learning and child care, economic justice and poverty reduction, and the Canadian Index of Wellbeing.
In this annual report, we provide an overview of our granting as well as a financial summary for the past year. The theme of the report is “Humanity Above All” and is inspired by our founder, Joseph E. Atkinson. The report juxtaposes detrimental austerity measures, as implemented by various governments in 2011, with Atkinson’s belief that institutions should always serve the needs of people.
