The Long View: Our Strategy to Build Movement Power for Decent Work is our organizational strategy for the period of 2025 to 2035. It’s about “moving minds, money and markets” toward three long-term goals shaped by our core identity and history:
Decent work is the foundation of a good life and a healthy society. We’re focused on employment standards, income security, worker voice, and social support for people who live on low incomes in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
Movement infrastructure is durable. We’re committed to stabilizing or adding capacity to the decent work movement ecosystem while strengthening cross-movement relationships on a transnational scale.
Equitable “worker-centered” policies are adopted by governments, employers and unions. We’re concerned with core public policies like Employment Insurance and the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care System, emerging policies related to the care economy, and targeted systemic interventions for inclusive economic development and responsible investments.
Moving forward, we are committed to three strategic initiatives: The Good Fight Prize, the Atkinson Decent Work Fund, and a Board-staff process to transfer a portion of our endowment to one or more Indigenous-led entities.
At Atkinson, aligning mission to money and other resources is a daily discipline, motivated by a shared commitment to this “long view” and to meet the urgency of the present moment.
