While all cities in Canada have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis, they face different sets of challenges in recovery.

That’s why community members and organizations have come together to form the Just Recovery Hamilton Coalition. They include Atkinson partners like the Hamilton Community Benefits Network, Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion, and Hamilton ACORN.The Coalition has produced A Just Recovery for Hamilton: Municipal Policy, Investment and Opportunities for a more Equitable COVID-19 Recovery in 2021. Building on previous collaboration and innovation by city council and the community, this piece lays out recommendations for the city which focus on:

• Investing in women & 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities
• Mobility justice & disability justice
• Housing as a human right
• Tackling systemic racism
• Investing in decent jobs & the local economy
• Growing a climate resilient city
