A weekly round-up of insight and analysis in the media from Atkinson Fellow on the Future of Workers, Armine Yalnizyan.
“The longer people are locked out of the labour market, the it is for them to get back in. That’s just how recessions work…they become less employable over time.” Armine explained to Global News in regards to the emerging ‘K-shaped’ recover Canada is seeing. (October 17)
Armine spoke to Fortune magazine about Canada’s economic response, so far, to the COVID-19 crisis as compared to the United States, from income supports to federal debt. “But certainly, Canada has done more, and more consistently, for more people than in the U.S. And we have been rewarded with much more robust job recovery and fewer business failures to date,” she described.
